"Busia leaders have been urged to ensure that compensation for Lakwana war victims is genuine and transparent. Speaking to a section of leaders over the weekend at the funeral of Mzee Willson Malingu Olipa, a survivor of the 1980s Lakwana and FOBA insurgencies in Buhehe Subcounty, Ouma Patrick warned against potential irregularities in the compensation process. He emphasized the need for further consultations to prevent wealthy individuals and greedy people who did not suffer from receiving compensation, while overlooking the peasants who lost everything and the generation whose future was stolen by the war. Ouma Patrick's remarks stressed the importance of fairness and transparency in compensating those truly affected by the insurgency."
